Madewell screams ME lately. You can check out all 24 looks on their website. I am very excited to style boyfriend jeans (Gap is also making some nice ones, order your normal size in most of them) this fall. I will soften up the look with a feminine sweater seen above or create a total boyish look with white sneakers and boxy jackets.

Two-nic. Haha, get it? :D XD

So, the temperature is climbing to upper 70s lower 80s next week in Columbia. It may leave you wondering...dafuq? I know. Me too. I've been eye-ing this gorgeous tunic from Madewell ever since it appeared on Erin Wasson in the label's spring lookbook. It's super airy, super chill, super gorgeous, AND anti-foodbaby. So today, I thought of TU ways to work this into my (dream) wardrobe.

Outfit a gauche: hangout by seaside and show some legs with a pair of boyfriend shorts. How cute are those Nicholas Kirkwood sandals?! Wear a black bikini of sorts underneath the top and have a couple of thin delicate ornaments around your neck and chest. Carry the rest of your stuff in a Chloe Marcie, which I actually own out of all the things I pick for these damn outfits.

Outfit a droite: city dwellers and office workers of the creative kind can half-tuck this tunic in some cropped white jeans or a pair of long relaxed boyfriend jeans that hit the ground. Equally relaxed are these Birkenstocks which I love more than the 'Arizona' style that is worn by every blogger ever existed. Carry a large sophisticated Coach Borough bag which is quite impressive (so is the price). Add some fun to the outfit by wearing this very pretty J.Crew scarf.

I have some TUnes picked out for tomorrow. Stay TUned.

March 23, 2014

One fourth of the year is almost gone and it's still freezing in the mornings. But nothing stops me from dreaming about spring. Not even you, the 2048 game! In the bare hours when I'm not completely addicted to 2048 (both the original and the doge editions), I made these two lewks for a warm (and colorful) welcome to this impending season, whenever it decides to show.

Lewk #1 features my favorite pants among all the J.Crew new arrivals from January to April. I thought the print is very "tropical greenery overload but still not excessive because it's all the same color." They're suitable for all seasons if you think about it and that's a good thing if I have to shell out $200 for them. So, I started from there and suddenly this H&M top came to my mind. It's sort of genius to pair them together, because the pants are somewhat "smart" and conservative, yet the top is so bohemian and free. To tone down the sexiness of the top (bare shoulder AND bare abs? Can't leave the house like that!), I thought it's time to add a panama hat. Hats are never out of style even though most of them look ridiculous on me. And I'm not kidding. My head is not built for hats. I know the hat doesn't cover up any more skin than the top does, but theoretically, I could take off the hat and cover it on my belly. The lovely green pants are cropped  thus the Opening Ceremony ankle-strap sandals. I really love the breathability of the heels which can make you look like you're levitating from afar. Lastly I thought, why not adding more colors?! The classic red Coach mini Borough bag is perfect if you want to hold it by its handles or use it as a crossbody. Versatility is everything.

Again, H&M velvet top, J.Crew Panama hat, J.Crew Collection cropped pant in photo lace, Opening Ceremony sandals, Coach mini Borough bag.

Lewk #2 is constructed around my love for oversized shirt worn as a dress and shades of army green. This top is from Zara and there are many designer dupes by brands like that. I think I first fell in love with a perfect oversized shirt when sighting a very clean white one on a Balenciaga runway. I never liked green until recently, when I randomly started appreciating the richer hues or those tan safari colors that are very earthy (like this cami in "safari fatigue"). Because I'm short, I would definitely wear the shirt-dress with something with heels. I wouldn't button the shirt up all the way though. I think that kind of styling works better on models. I would wear it open sorta like a beach coverup, with a long delicate necklace. On my neck I'd use this bandana as a neckerchief. And that cuff sorta matches with it even though I'm not one that do matching, so I'll say, it resonates with the neck actions. Again I picked a Coach bag.

Zara shirt, Tabitha Simmons sandals, J.Crew necklace and cuff, Madewell camo bandana, Coach Bleecker mini.

If I remember correctly, there were some amazing desert-inspired nail polishes by Dior from a couple of years ago that would do great with my new color cravings. Unfortunately they were limited edition.

Seriously though, where's a 2048 rehab?

March 15, 2014

Hey guys, I'm back from springbreak! In other words, I'll start posting again as my laptop screams in agony. I watched an hour-long Youtube video of how to disassemble a laptop and clean up the fan but eventually decided it's not for me. I mean, it looks totally doable. But I really don't want to mess up anything. At least not before I have it checked out by some professionals at first. Maybe it's time to let it go....

I love denim styles. I wear my men's (stressing, NOT my man's...but not like, multiple men...I mean, like a shirt designed for a dude! there we go...) chambray shirt like twice a week. My only southern-weather winter jacket is pretty much my 90s-but-not-actually-vintage denim jacket. I found these following ladies rocking some really interesting denims from various sites (thanks to Who What Where giving me a headstart.) I know the boyfriend jean trend has been going on for a while, but I can never really find good looking affordable pairs that work on me, a short, not super skinny person. It's always too baggy, not baggy enough, too much mom jean butt going on in the back, major camel toe in front, too tough to be comfortable which defeats the purpose of boyfriend jeans, among other failures. So I stick with my skinnies and painful marks on my lower abdomen. (I'm convinced they've planted themselves there for good.) So you see I've given up on this quest long ago. THOUGH, I just found some really good ones at J.Crew the other day!!! They're super soft, relaxed, and radiating cool-girl vibes.

The ones I tried on are the "Boyfriend jean in Ontario wash" (so friendly to your bottom half they're Canadian). They also have the Eastwood jean (here, and on Leandra here) which unfortunately was not in my store. The Ontario wash was SO SOFT. I've also heard good things about Madewell jeans (here, here, shorts, Chimala, Chimala).

So, I was inspired enough (cue green shimmering diamond on top of my head as in Sims) to create these two looks:

Outfit #1: Madewell leather vest, shirt; J.Crew boyfriend jeans in Ontario wash, pumps; Henri Bendel silk scarf worn as neckerchief.

Outfit #2: Madewell varsity jacket, tee, necklace; J.Crew Eastwood jean, pumps.

Lastly, I want to show y'all this:

https://twitter.com/ManRepeller

LIJF;OADFIJLK Leandra made my week!!!! I was such a fangirl I couldn't fall asleep that night after I saw this. I've made it y'all. At least in the fashion world.

February 25, 2014

Lately, my J.Crew obsession needs no introduction. Here are some pieces that are on my wishlist right now. You can see the links to all the pieces here.

I placed an order two days ago and now I kinda regret it because a lot of new things went on sale today! The first two are the Ludlow blazers that I hope to eventually score for interviews ($375; now $298 plus add. 40% off plus tax). I really want to try the chino short in flowerpatch print (3rd in 2nd row) because my store doesn't have it. The pleated poplin skirt (6th top row) looks cute. The stripe-sleeve merino sweaters (2nd to right, 2nd row; and 1st in 3rd row) which are considered new arrivals went on sale today, too ($95; now $69.99 plus add. 40% off plus tax)...not that I need more sweaters! Don't even get me started on the shoes....and the bikinis. What have you been loving from J.Crew lately? I've seen the March catalog online and can't wait to get my hands on a paper copy.

*Anytime I do a screenshot of J.Crew's shoes, no matter what background color it is on the screen, it always turns out to be this weird shade of grey (see above). Help? I mean, all these screenshots are from the same list on the same page...Plus it's a screenshot so I couldn't change the background color...

Runway looks will be back tomorrow!

It's that time of the year again! These designer collaborations always fixate on a couple of prints and make them into dresses, tanks, RASHGUARDS, totes, sunglasses, you name it. Plus, PP's specialty is his prints, which I am super excited about. So, here are two of my favorite prints from this collection in various articles of clothing. You can view the full collection on Refinary29 here. I would recommend checking them out in person because sometimes they look a whole LOT different in person due to fabric qualities. I will definitely be there on February 9th!

Coat, scarf, passport holder, leather pants, bag all coach.
I stopped by my local Coach store today to check if they carry card holders...it totally reminded me to blog about their new Borough bag, which comes in 3 sizes. They're absolutely gorgeous. These other pieces I picked out are totally en pointe too. The color palette is just..too classy!

I was going to cleverly title this "Tuesday Shoesday", but then I realized it's actually Wednesday. This shows my current stressed out level I guess. The sad thing is, I actually don't have any tests this week.

As I am currently struggling with trying to stop myself from purchasing a favorite sweater that just went on sale (more than 50% off!!!!!), I felt the need to do a sexy shoes post for no reason. (Probably because I just painted my nails with Dior Rouge 999 which is ultra hot.) From top left in clockwise order: Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, Zara, Saint Laurent, Prada, Giuseppe Zanotti, Nicholas Kirkwood, Zara, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney.

Everything's from current season Zara kids. If you're petite, you'll fit in the largest sizes of these. I didn't know my exact sentiments when I created these, but I am guessing it really hit close to home. You know that I'm not keen to dress like the mom of a certain baby North. In fact, I'm the opposite - I would dress just like the baby! There is surprisingly not enough coverage of possibly the best-baby-wardrobe-ever. No no, I do believe it's actually a good thing that the child is hidden away from those flashing lights. But I'm curious and all. You see, I felt like I hit the jackpot when I discovered earlier this weekend that my true wardrobe inspiration was laying with the kids' collections - comfortable is my middle name. (No kidding, my middle name actually starts with a C.) All these outfits I picked out are perfect with the softest flats like a pair of the very trendy Valentino rockstud flats in every possible color or, for added spice, some Alexander Wang mules. Shoes define the attitude of an outfit that's why I am a total shoe addict.

Psychoanalyzing myself right now after a sudden depression episode. But then I decided it's best to leave out the negativity especially after it's gone for the moment.  Though I want to mention the roots of my misery are never about specific persons, more of collectives of things, that happen to erupt in harmony, disrupting a peace of mind.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone and a great week!

NARS concealer, Shiseido moisturizer, Kiehl's eye cream, Deborah Lippmann Rolling in the Deep, Givenchy 202 Rose Dressing, Philosophy face cleanser, Diptyque Figuier, Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia, MUFE brow gel, UD palette

Sephora VIB 20% off sale is near (Thursday Nov. 7 to Tuesday Nov. 11 to be precise.) So I've been thinking about what to get. This is a good list for one-of-each...right? (Kiehl's and Diptyque not sold at Sephora.) *must narrow down* Things that are absolutely necessary - that concealer (my under-eye circles are larger than my eyes), moisturizer (mine is too old probably full of bacteria), and that face wash (current smaller version running out shortly). Though I'm pretty sure I'll come up with excuses to buy more stuff.

Route to world domination continues with learning about local barnacle distribution/zonation on the Atlantic coast of New England and with the ongoing memorization of 70 paintings and their associated facts.

*11/10 update: I bought the concealer, face wash, eyeshadow palette, and got a moisturizer for free! Weee!

Copying styles from the likes of Taylor Tomasi Hill and Emmanuelle Alt --
V-neck dirty pink sweater + gray skinny jeans
bib front shirt + patched skinny jeans
Celine-esque sweater + maxi skirt
black silk blouse + black skinnies
All current season Zara.

Zara shoes are not reliable so I didn't use any. But Saint Laurent pumps or some casual sneakers would work across the board here.
I'm not actually keeping up with fashion weeks this time due to the amount of work I have at school. Current status: 6 posts in draft.

Styling the ambiguous

For me, the black maxi seems to be perfect to wear on campus in warm or cool weather. (Remind me why don't I own one already?) I chose this HELMUT one with a slit -- not because it's sexy (it is, btw), but because it's practical since you can actually walk in big steps unlike many other straight maxis.

#1 -- top Maison Martin Margiela x H&M, shoes Zara, sunglasses Linda Farrow for The Row, bag 3.1 Phillip Lim

#2 -- sweatshirt J.W. Anderson, shoes Tod's, scarf Silviya Neri, cardholder Proenza Schouler, lipstick Armani Beauty

Obviously, no one has to get 500 dollar sunglasses or no-longer-available tops. The take-away message is that simple (almost) b&w outfit just works if you pay attention to details. Like, I'm totally digging this under-$50 silk blouse from Uniqlo.

I will be doing a post on actual art (Matisse, Rothko, etc) soon since I'm taking a class on those. Saw some really cool works recently! Now, back to histology...

August 26, 2013

I admit that I've been browsing fall fashion way too much, when we are all still suffering from mildly humiliating humidity - cue: gross hair, fogged up glasses when exiting an A/C-to-the-max building, and that shit-I-just-showered-why-do-I-feel-like-I-need-to-shower-again feeling). But it is tempting isn't it? With all the September issues out and about and (darling) J-Law's face seductively staring into our souls wherever we go, it's quite easy to get lost on the Internet (or on the streets...for all who actually get a chance to see them in person) looking for the perfect plaid coat or V-neck cashmere sweater. Though, I have to attribute this post to that Monday blue that creeps up on everyone but the workaholics. I, as you probably have figured, should be doing my 40-page histology reading on connective tissue. It just doesn't feel right, you know, for Eileen to start reading a brand new book without some procrastinating beforehand. I'm happy that I managed to be productive during this hour.

It is advised to roll up your sleeves (casually) and half-tuck the plaid shirt. Legs don't have to be shaved but need to be toned. That skirt is mid-thigh length. No accessories necessary other than the watch. (Sunglasses and backpack are essential because of my student status.)

Shirt Uniqlo Men's, skirt Carven, sunglasses Prada, watch Shinola. backpack Christopher Kane, sandals Birkenstocks

July 6, 2013

I don't know about you guys, but recently, I found small shoulder bags most useful. I've been toting around my birthday gift from my lovely roomie -- an utterly adorable faux (I love this word, sounds so much more chic than "fake"...probably because it's French?) crocodile leather cross-body, perfectly sized for my phone, thin mints, lipstick, and some cash/plastic. I, for one, don't give/receive designer bags for gifts considering my and my friends' income level (income level = broke college students). But this little guy has proven to be uber handy, so much so that I don't even think about using the much more expensive actual tote my parents gave me. It's hands/shoulder-free, so you can be moving around doing useless stuff like 'gram-ing without it sliding off.

Given my recent circumstances -- thanks to Margaret (seriously, check out her blog. She's THAT amazing, and someone totally relatable. And Australian.), I've been considering taking advantage of this opportunity to get myself a treat. Pictured are my four best options after hours of looking through the site (#sorrynotsorry ?), and what's better are the imaginary personalities that I've made up for them.

Bag A is festival-chic. It's fits the current mood of music fests that're happening around the world featuring all these cool indie peeps. It's understated but also stands out among the crowd with the studs. Though, I wish there's a lighter (white/beige/dove) version of this.

Bag B on the other hand, is the coolest fashionista among these four, in my opinion, because it is a chameleon. You can go all adorable-chic without the shoulder strap, or give retro-modern vibes with it. The only thing about it (that bothers me) is that it's a teeny bit smaller than the rest...which are already pretty tiny themselves.

Bag C likes road-tripping through and through. It probably has traveled the most out of all. The horseshoe and lock details give it real characters, while the color selections are gorgeous (it also comes in "cashmere grey", "fresh mint", "rose milk", and like 3092578093904 other nice colors). However, this is the most expensive out of the bunch.

Bag D is totally badass. (It's also a cross-body but straps are not pictured.) It rides a bike going 90 mph and is not looking back. I didn't put so much thoughts on this one at first because of the quilted surface. I was hoping it could be smooth leather.

If you think about it, they're all quite simple (never a fan of hardware) yet somewhat retro. Since I can't have them all -- in words of Rebecca Black, "which one should I take?"

April 18, 2013

It's 80 degrees out everyday. What should I wear?

Old readers know that I'm obsessed with Zara. I used to have a "what I want from Zara's catalog" post every week. Clearly, this obsession hasn't faded. So here's a plateful of summer jam (lol!) that I've come up with this time. It's all about being super laid-back but fun, with skin-showing here and there, all while looking collected.

Outfit #1 is like, Rumi-Neely 101...because she actually has this shirt. I adore her style and simply believes she's the queen of looking chill and hot.

Outfit #2 I love tank tops. And for those slightly breathier days, a colorful print scarf goes perfectly with them. Those white wedges are sick.

Outfit #3 features one of my favorite trends - fashion sneakers. I love shoes that are either extremely uncomfortable (4inch or higher plz) or extremely comfortable (sneakers, super soft penny loafers, etc.) Wear them with a crop top to be playful, or with this see-through draped top (and a choker!) to be more dressed-up.

Outfit #4 features my current favorite summer time colors - black and silver. As much as I love white clothing, they make my skin tone look funny. But black works so much better. Silver pointy pumps are also necessary.

Outfit #5  THEM KNEE HIGH GLADIATOR SANDALS. 'Nough said.

Outfit #6 I don't usually like black & red outfits. But these cranes on shorts are just irresistible. Also, if you don't like red lipsticks, wear them on your neck instead.

Two more weeks of school left OMG. I honestly cannot wait. I just finished my last big test of my sophomore year. And I have another week to waste before finals roll around. My last final is a gonna be a joke. And for the other two finals that I have to take, I have pretty decent grades in those classes so I don't have to be super stressed out about them. I like this but I also hate how empty I feel without all the work that need to be done. I am also dealing with some other personal struggles besides emptiness. But more on that later. Have a good weekend y'all. Go get drunk.

In bloggerland, there is no (financial) scarcity per se...

...but NYFW has become so massive quantity wise. In general, for this winter, I see a trend of more muted/toned down/pale colors than patterns/prints/fancy stuffs. (Or is it just me who pinned all the monochrome outfits instead of the colorful ones?!! Idk..) There are also many (apparently in the next three cities as well) check/plaid/stripe looks. You can check out all of my pinned/favorited looks on my pinterest. It took me foreverrrr to cover all the shows that were on Style.com (aka my fashion show photo cred site). NY, you gotta control yourself...it's just expanding too quickly. :P Also, before I start, that "March Mix" post was created for this! Have a listen while checking out the pictures. :) :P

As the title suggested, I've lumped all my favorite looks/pieces into this one post.

Where is a better place to start than Alexander Wang??? For all who aren't as involved with fashion news as I am, Alexander Wang is appointed as the new creative director of Balenciaga (Paris) after Nicolas Ghesquière's departure from the brand. I already saw that collection (I couldn't wait!) and it looks amazing. But I will talk about that later in PFW's post. Here, Alexander Wang continues with his B&W designs but with rounder edges comparing to his previous seasons. This collection excels at outerwear and will most definitely work in terms of functionality. Some people criticize the collection saying the irregular oversized shape of many pieces; honestly, I like those. But here, I picked out some more universal ones for all of us and for many more winters to come.

What I love about the left coat is the dropped waist and blurred edges (wide bands). The right one has the perfect shade of grey (pun unintended) covered in fur. As a fur-lover (anti-fur peeps, go away if you don't like it...I WILL post lots of fur on here), I was delighted to see some great designs this season in NY. For example...

The extremely fabulous white fur on Bette Franke is Jason Wu. There was also a Altuzarra white fur coat but I decided to pick a black short coat here. I like the little long sections on the sides of the sleeves...they remind me of furry tails!

Other excellent outerwear examples are

Altuzarra went the sexy route & pretty much designed a wardrobe for Carine Roitfeld. Yet this white double-breasted blazer+dress combo would work on many others. But it's all about power dressing. If you want to not be noticed though, you can go with the Yigal Azrouel camel coat. But how many of us want to go unnoticed? This yellow/orange Narciso Rodriguez blazer is SO SO amazing. It's one of those make-all-outfit-awesome pieces. If that's not your color, you can do the 3.1 Phillip Lim pink coat. Notice it has awesome mini textured pattern details. :D If those aren't enough...there're always Threeasfour's organic looking one or Thom Browne's usual menswear inspired offering (I do also like the rose tights tho).

At school, I often opt for softer winterwear for comfort. Knit cardies like this Preen Line one or Indian-inspired Libertine oversized one are uber cool.

In South Carolina, I like to wear mostly sweaters than coats. Maybe that's why I have developed an unusual sweater/sweatshirt hording tendency. Here, you are seeing Rag & Bone, Lacoste sweatshirts; and beautiful pink Sally LaPointe and decorated Rodarte sweaters.

There were also excellent Alexander Wang sweaters (as usual). For the black sweater, isn't that neckline super perfect?!!! I also like the shiny little squares which adds interesting characters to it.

I also spotted some military-inspired looks. I was especially excited for this because I purchased a pair of camouflage pants from Zara last December. And they're on my legs ever since. These Prabal Gurung cutout army green pieces are topssss. That 3.1 Phillip Lim camo sweater stands out because of the fur and zipper details. The Michael Kors fur camo coat is also very wearable.

Other patterned things that I love include these Araks offerings:

Marc by Marc Jacobs: (for the outfit on the left, you absolutely HAVE TO wear both the top and bottom pieces together!!!)

Checks from Elizabeth & James (I've been looking for plaid pants for forever and these ASOS and ASOS ones are my tops picks thus far, there's also a J. Crew pair coming out soon) and Victoria Beckham (she wore this one day out and about with baby Harper!):

Usual cool Jeremy Scott pieces (remember Cara's Bart Simpson outfit? Yup that's him):

Vertical and horizontal striped pants from Suno and 3.1 Phillip Lim (essentially this entire Phillip Lim outfit is awesome):

Wes Gordon's amazing fancypants, and Diane von Furstenberg's pink flare pants and metallic ones:

I have also yet to try these retro shapes & lengths on pants/skirts (from Assembly and Rachel Roy, respectively)

You probably have also noticed, that I am showing a lot of 3.1 Phillip Lim pieces. The fact is, this collection is very cool. Here're two patched-denim looks that I couldn't decide which to pick...

Lovely pink pieces by Rodebjer and Thakoon:

Other tops that I love are Rebecca Minkoff's "Space" tee, Narciso Rodriguez's flowy b&w tank, Derek Lam's black & nude tight (thermal?), and Richard Chai Love's cute dressy one.

Modern pieces (ok now I'm just making up categories) from Tibi (I also LOVE the knee-high boots) and Victoria Beckham (gorgeous yellow!):

Marc Jacobs did the most amazing pajama dressing pieces (from little midnight blue jacket to nude office-ready dress):

Another collection I have to mention is Proenza Schouler. This collection is so much different from what they were doing and it is sooooo impressive!!!! From the colors to the shapes to the little details...this is also a transition to dresses, by the way. :P

Let's start with some beautiful day dresses by Helmut Lang (more earthy tone awesomeness!), Peter Som (this is so spring-like), Cushnie et Ochs (that collar shape is amazing!!!), and Catherine Malandrino (art deco beauty).:

Baby blue ones by Pamella Roland and Timo Weiland:

Diane von Furstenberg's GORGEOUS suede wrap dress and blue boho(?) beach dress:

Different tastes of glam by Naeem Khan (super gorgeous textures and super unique), Badgley Mischka (hot!), Monique Lhuillier (spiderweb!), and Marc Jacobs (blinding hahaha):

All sorts of colors: Jen Kao (one of my favorite pieces this season in NY!), Marchesa, Jenny Packham (princess-y), Carolina Herrera (power), Marchesa (fab), Jill Stuart, Jason Wu, Monique Lhuillier (beautiful arrays of green!), Jason Wu (my favorite color - cobalt).

Sexy dresses by Prabal Gurung and Cushnie et Ochs:

THE Oscar de la Renta dresses...OK. I spent forever trying to pick one of these two...but I failed.

This is actually one Narciso Rodriguez dress...but I was so surprised when the model turned and the back is gorgeous!!! (Sorry about cutting off sides of the dress...trying to fit them on here)

Now on to accessories! :D Shoes first: clockwise from top left: Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Derek Lam, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez.

Then bags: clockwise from top left: Reed Krakoff, Narciso Rodriguez, Derek Lam, Marc by Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Last but not least, other accessories (-.-), notably Marc Jacobs' super cute fake animal stole/neckwarmer and Anna Sui's necklace (I like the pink tights too...even though Anna's stuffs aren't usually my cup of tea).

What do you think? Did you like this season's NYFW? What are your favorite pieces/collections?
